Potters still paying Imbula wages

Stoke City

Stoke flop Giannelli Imbula is reportedly costing the club £33,000-a-week in wages despite the fact he is on loan with Toulouse.

The 25-year-old was signed by Mark Hughes in February 2016, with the Potters paying Porto £18.3m for his services, but he failed to hit the heights at the bet365 Stadium.

The former France Under-21 star started well at the club but, despite making 14 top-flight appearances and scoring two goals, his form deteriorated and he was just a peripheral figure last season, with 12 Premier League outings.

The Belgium-born schemer was shipped out on a season-long loan to the Ligue 1 club in August last year but it seems as though Stoke are still heavily involved in paying his salary.

Figures released by French publication L’Equipe suggest City are paying him £33,000-a-week, or £132,000 per month in wages, with Toulouse picking up the rest.

That equates to around £267,000 per month in total wages for a player who seemingly has no future in the Potteries and has made 18 league appearances in the France’s top division this term, with mixed reviews on his displays.
